Are You An Ethical Person?

The Jewish Learning Institute (JLI) will present Living with Integrity: Navigating Everyday Ethical Dilemmas, the institute’s new six-session Winter 2013 course that will begin during the last week of January of the new year.

Rabbi Shmuly Altein of Chabad-Lubavitch will conduct the six course sessions at 7:30 pm on Tuesdays, beginning January 29, 2013, at the Jewish Learning Centre. The course fee is $79.00 and includes a valuable student textbook.

The Jewish Learning Institute is the adult education arm of Chabad-Lubavitch and a Partner Agency of the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg.

Mayor Sam Katz Lights Menorah at City Hall With Chabad Rabbis

Rabbi Altein lights Menorah with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his wife Laureen Harper hosted a Menorah lighting ceremony at their home in honour of Chanukah.

It was a rare scene at 24 Sussex Drive, the official residence of the Prime Minister of Canada, located in the New Edinburgh neighborhood of Ottawa, Ontario.

A delegation of Chabad rabbis from across the country, including our very own Rabbi Avrohom Altein, gathered there to celebrate freedom over oppression and truth over evil, a stance Harper is familiar with in his unwavering defense of Israel.

Chanukah at Chabad

Hundreds turned up this past Sunday afternoon for our annual community-wide Chanukah celebration at the Jewish Learning Centre. The dreidel moon bounce was a big hit for young families, as well as the Chanukah grams, glow-in-the-dark dreidel crafts and facepaint. Families who took a photo op with Judah the Maccabee can download their high res pictures from our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/chabadwinnipeg.

Bernie Lofchik, a successful businessman and entrepreneur and long time supporter of Chabad-Lubavitch, gave opening remarks. Bob Freedman, CEO of the Jewish Federation, was honoured with lighting a giant glow in the dark Menorah, built by Bermax Furniture & Design.

Beis-Midrash

Beis-Medrash is an hour program of concentrated study in an intellectually stimulating environment. Every Shabbat evening, from 8:00 to 9:00 pm, the Rich Family Hall at the Jewish Learning Centre is reserved for personal study of classic Torah texts.

This is a time when each participant can delve into the Torah subject of his choice. The experience of being surrounded by people that are all highly motivated to study Torah, is an experience that shapes the spiritual quality of the entire week to come.
