IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
If you urgently need to be in touch with us during the camp day, and no one is available at the contact number listed above, please call 204 339-8737 ext.202, wait for the answering machine to pick up, and dial the number '8'.
Please send the following items with your child to camp;
Food - Please send a lunch, drink and snack to camp. For Kosher and allergy reasons please do not send foods with meat or nuts. It is also useful for the children to have a re-closable water bottle that they can sip from throughout the day when we are on the bus etc.
Clothing - Please send your child with sunscreen and a sunhat as we will spend time outdoors enjoying Winnipeg's summer (weather permitting). We suggest that you put sunscreen on your child in the morning, and our staff will provide assistance (if needed) to reapply their sunscreen after swimming. Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather as we spend time outdoors each day.
Swimming - Swimming is one of the children’s best activities, and we go swimming several times throughout the summer. Please send swimwear and a towel so your child can fully participate in this fun activity.
Other - Children are encouraged to bring a coin (e.g. a penny) for tzedokah each day to accustom them to this great mitzvah.
Camp will notify you of specific trip days when campers are required to wear a camp t-shirt. This mandatory safety policy allows the staff to easily locate and identify your child even in a crowd of other children.
Occasionally we will send home a notice with your child. Please check their bags in case they forget to give it to you.
Campers are not allowed to purchase anything during camp. This includes; vending machines, food, snacks, souveniers, toys etc.
A TIME TO SHARE – A TIME TO REFRAIN FROM SHARING
We do not allow campers to share lunches or snacks due to health, Kashrus and logistical considerations.
During the last week of Camp Gan Israel, camp hosts an evening for parents. Your child has prepared for this event and will appreciate the chance to share with you a taste of what s/he has been enjoying. Please make every effort to attend… you will not be disappointed.
As a reward for great behaviour and an opportunity for campers to have extra fun, counsellors of the older bunks may arrange a ‘late night’ activity for your child’s bunk. The children typically stay in camp for an extra hour or two of special programming. Snacks are served, as children will be arriving home later than usual. Campers really enjoy these bunk rewards. If your child's group will be having a late night, your child will be bringing home a note for you to sign. This will give us your permission for your child to participate as well as inform you of the change in pick up time.
For many years it has been a Camp Gan Israel tradition for the older girls to participate in a Shabbaton. It is hard to describe how much fun and how beneficial this Shabbaton experience is for the girls. We encourage parents to facilitate their daughter's participation. Your daughter will bring home a note with the relevant information.
Every effort is made to return lost items to their owners. Please assist us in this formidable task by labelling your child’s belongings. You may want to take time before camp to label towels, sunscreen, caps, sweaters, lunch boxes etc. You can always contact us regarding specific items that are missing.
Your camp tuition is tax deductable as a childcare expense. Receipts are issued by email.
Sorry, we cannot be responsible for expensive items brought to camp. Cell phones, cash, expensive electronics etc. are to be left at home.
We do not allow trading or selling of cards, collectables, etc. in camp.
Dangerous items such as knives, fireworks, matches, lighters etc. are not permitted in camp.
Boys are expected to keep their heads covered with a kipa or cap.
Boys are encouraged to wear Tzitzis in camp. We have a limited supply of children’s sized Tzitzis. They are available for purchase in camp.
Camp hats are a perfect way to show your Gan Izzy spirit, and also a great way to keep the dangerous sun off your child’s head. Although not compulsory we strongly encourage all children, especially younger kids, to wear a camp cap as it makes them instantly recognizable as belonging to our group on tours, trips, etc. Our black baseball caps have the camp emblem embroidered on the front, and are 'one size fits all' with an adjustable velcro strap at the back. Caps can be purchased in camp for $10.00. *CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK*
Pictures taken during camp may be posted on our website, social media platforms and used in promotional materials. For safety reasons, children’s full names are not associated with their pictures.
The Camp Gan Israel scholarship fund enables dozens of children to experience the summer of a lifetime. Each year our scholarship fund allocates thousands of dollars. Please donate to the scholarship fund today. We appreciate your support.
