Meet Mendel and Dvora!

Winnipeg’s Jewish Community is proud to welcome a new couple, Rabbi Menachem & Devora Altein. Together, they are opening a new division of Chabad in Winnipeg, that will work with the growing number of Israelis and Hebrew speakers that now comprise a significant component of our community.

Rabbi Menachem is the youngest son of Rabbi Avrohom Altein, Winnipeg’s senior rabbi who is the head director of Chabad here since 1972. As a young student, Rabbi Menachem studied in Oholei Torah, Chabad’s local day school. From there he went on to study in high-level academies in the United States and Israel, where he excelled and was ordained. Devora was born and raised in Tel Aviv, where her parents direct… Read More »

Farewell Alla Golinkin

One of my first encounters with Alla took place in Chabad’s kitchen on a busy Thursday afternoon. There was a woman asking me to do something for her and my body language must have been screaming, “I can’t!” I told the woman I would think about it as she left the room. I felt Alla looking at me. With a warm and vibrant smile, which over the years I’ve learned to cherish and love like a hug, Alla said, “YES! We always say YES. Then we figure out how to get it done.”

This is Alla Golinkin. This is Grandma Alla by Chabad.

What started out as coordinating and preparing a simple hot lunch service for the children at Torah Tots Preschool, turned into a full fledged catering service led by… Read More »

Camp Gan Israel Registration NOW OPEN

We are excited to announce Camp Gan Israel will be opening this summer!

We all know how important Camp Gan Israel is for our children in a regular year, and that need has only increased after so many months of uncertainty and isolation.

Please note that due to the current regulations there have been many changes to the program, schedule and safety precautions.

Please click here and read through the summary of changes before enrolling your child.

Camp Gan Israel UPDATE

This year, we are looking forward to an exciting Camp Gan Israel experience, however, we will need to modify the program to conform to current regulations. We would like your input, as a parent, to help us create the best program possible within the required guidelines.

Please take a moment to fill out this survey to help us understand your current needs as we continue to plan for different possibilities.

A New Virtual JLI Course

Due to the current situation, we will be postponing our spring course, Secrets of the Bible, to a yet-to-be-determined date. This will allow us to enjoy the complete, in-person course experience together once this crisis is over. If you already paid for the course, you can expect a full refund.

Instead, we invite you to join Judaism At Home, a five-part Jewish literacy series about how Judaism is observed at home that we are offering online. This offering will touch on many areas, ranging from the things we do upon waking, to how we eat our meals, elements of prayer, and the basics of Shabbat. The content will include practical guidance, in the style of DIY, as well as deeper insights about why we do what we do.
