Chanukah at Chabad

Friday, 30 November, 2018 - 12:24 am

Chanukah celebrates the power of the Jewish soul to brighten up a dark, intolerant world with spiritual light and warmth. Just like the Maccabees, Chanukah reminds us that life's darkest moments and greatest challenges can be brightened with steadfast faith and determination.

Watch a special Chanukah message from Rabbi Avrohom Altein here >>

We look forward to celebrating this special holiday with you!

Don't miss Winnipeg’s most popular Chanukah event!
Join us on Sunday, December 2 from 4:00 pm, at our annual community-wide Chanukah celebration and Menorah lighting ceremony. This year's event will feature a live concert with the Borzykowski Brothers, greetings from elected officials, hot latkes and delicious sufganiyot, and loads of fun for the whole family! Get creative and make a spinning dreidel-bot at our Maccabee Makerspace, take a family portrait with Judah the Maccabee, pick up a gift at our Chanukah boutique, Guess the Gelt to win a Chanukah present, and cheer us on as we take to the streets of Winnipeg in our police-escorted car Menorah parade to share the joy, excitement and optimism of the holiday en masse.

Open to all free of charge. Please consider a sponsorship: $54 Latke // $100 Dreidel // $180 Menorah.

Advance registration appreciated >>

Menorah kits and dreidels for sale
Our Chanukah gift shop is now open. You can pick up a Menorah for $5, a box of candles for $3 or a Menorah lighting kit for $7 and we'll throw in a free dreidel! A variety of other Chanukah items and gifts are also available at discounted prices. Electric menorahs are great for display purposes and are a wonderful medium for publicizing the Chanukah miracle, but the Chanukah lights used to fulfill the mitzvah should be real flames fueled by wax or oil – like the flames in the Holy Temple.

Public Menorah Lighting at Winnipeg City Hall
Join us on Monday, December 3 at 4:30 pm for an exclusive menorah lighting ceremony at City Hall with Mayor Brian Bowman.
